Chunghwa Telecom to Invest US$198 Mln in Data Network Infrastructure in 2012

Taiwan's major telecom operator Chunghwa Telecom said on December 6, 2011 that the company will focus on expanding its mobile network deployment in 2012, the Commercial Times of Taiwan reported. Total investment is estimated at NT$6 billion (US$198.7 million; US$1=NT$30.2) for 2012, up from NT$4.8 billion (US$158.9 million) for 2011. Chunghwa Telecom projects to increase the number of 42Mbps base stations to approximately 1,000 in 2012. It is reported that the company plans to purchase at least 1.1 million units of Smartphones next year, value-line and mid-range models in particular.
